Motability Allowance: Share your experiences with PIP or ADP

Parkinson’s UK Scotland are asking for people to share their experience to help them to campaign for a fairer mobility measure in Scotland.  They explain:

“If you are applying for the new Adult Disability Payment (ADP) you may not qualify for the highest rate of mobility allowance if you can “reliably” walk 20 metres or more.

It is the same test as PIP, which is being replaced with ADP in Scotland. And the Scottish Government wants to hear from you about how the current 20 metre rule affects disabled people, including people with Parkinson’s, by 25th April 2023.

Sharing your experience could help us to change the system in Scotland. We know how important it is for people with Parkinson’s to get the highest rate for mobility. It means you get more money to help with the costs of living with Parkinson’s. It also gives you access to a car or other vehicle through the motability scheme, and means that you automatically qualify for a Blue Badge.

We know that with Parkinson’s you may be able to walk 20 metres sometimes and not others.

Please contact Tanith Muller on tmuller@parkinsons.org.uk or telephone on 0344 225 3726 if you have experiences with PIP or ADP, so that we can include your views on the 20 metre rule in the Parkinson’s UK Scotland response to the consultation.

You can remain anonymous. You can also respond to the Scottish Government consultation yourself online. You do not have to answer all the questions. The most important one is Q5: “If there was an opportunity to change the moving around activity criteria, what changes would you make (if any)?”

You can find Q5 by scrolling down this page and then type in the box to say why you think that the 20m rule should change. You can then just complete your details on the About You page and submit your response”.
