Professor Patrik Brundin delivered the 2015 Edinburgh Parkinson’s Lecture on the evening of 22 April to a packed house at the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh. Those fortunate enough to be in the audience heard a masterly exposition of the advances that have been made in recent years in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, using cell implantation, gene therapy and drug repurposing.
The lecture was entitled:
The battle to beat Parkinson’s disease: the end of the beginning
alluding to Winston Churchill’s famous statement during the Second World War. One of his most memorable war speeches came on 10 November 1942 at the Lord Mayor’s Luncheon at Mansion House in London, in response to the Allied victory at the Second Battle of El Alamein. Churchill stated:
This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning

Just heading home sitting on the train looking through all the great resources I picked up this evening and reflecting on how incredibly interesting and engaging the lecture was this evening. What a fantastically organised evening.”
