Our current Singing4Fun (S4F) song-leader Penny Stone and Sally Jaquet who took the now cancelled Wednesday class, posted videos (see links below) that kept us going through the Lockdowns and in the subsequent challenging period.

As the Branch supported facilitators’ online work, if you benefit from these videos, you may consider making a donation to the Branch via our JustGiving page but please do not add Gift Aid as the Branch is not allowed to claim it where a service has been provided in relation to a donation. It would also help our Treasurer if you identified the activity e.g. Singing4Fun.

World Parkinson Congress 2019 Song Competition Winners

In October 2018 Edinburgh Branch Singing4Fun were announced as winners of the competition in the category original lyrics AND original music (the other category being lyrics to an existing melody). Our song was created by a truly collaborative effort from a number of our singers under the inspiration and guidance of our Tuesday session song leader, Penny Stone. We were very last minute in submitting the entry so relied on Penny to create the recording with her singing the harmonies together with piano accompaniment (a requirement was to have piano or guitar accompaniment). The song was sung at the Congress in Kyoto in June 2019 by the Congress choir. You can hear our winning entry at this WPC 2019 link. https://wpc2019.org/page/playlist.

We have created a video of the S4Fun group singing the song. You can see it here: https://youtu.be/kE4C7vxFtUA

As part of the entry we had to submit an essay about the background to our creation and this can be found here Essay . A pdf of the lyrics can be found here lyrics A pdf of the full score can be found here Full score.

We can now regard this as our Edinburgh Branch song.

Further Creativity from the Group – Ode to Butterflies Café

Under normal circumstances our Tuesday S4F sessions are held in the afternoons at Marchmont St. Giles Church Hall, EH9 2DW. In appreciation of the Butterflies Café at the venue, the group wrote new lyrics to a traditional round and made a video recording while performing it during one of their Tuesday sessions in June 2019.
