Online Platform: ZOOM. You can either access it on your computer (via the website www.zoom.us) or by downloading the App to your phone or tablet.

Information for Karen from Theiya Arts:

What kind of chair do I need? Chairs with wheels are not ideal since they are unstable, but almost any other chair will do. If you are on the shorter side, put some sturdy hardback books/box under your feet to give yourself a firm foundation. Avoid heavily cushioned chairs that you sink deeply into.

Do I need extra equipment? You don’t need any special yoga equipment or props for this class.

What will we do in the class? This style of yoga is movement-based. We focus on improving your range of movement (in particular in the back, shoulders, hips, and backs of the legs), improving muscle tone, developing better breathing habits, reducing stress levels, and generally giving you a good stretch.

Do I need to have prior experience? Not at all. The class is designed to be accessible to all, and modifications and adjustments are there for all movements. Yoga is a spectrum of possibility!

How do I sign up? All you need to do is contact Karen at Theiya Arts and she will email you a simple sign-up form to complete and email back.

Free Online Sessions: Yoga Nidra / Relaxation sessions with Theiya Arts

Yoga Nidra is a relaxation technique, also known as “yogic sleep,” that involves being led through mental imagery while lying on your back to induce a state of deep relaxation and rest, yet remaining awake.

  • When: Every Tuesday 13:00-13:30 and Thursday 18:00-18:30
  • Where: Live online, via ZOOM
  • Cost: The sessions are offered free of charge

What happens during the session:
You join the session via Zoom. Once you connect, you will see Karen on your screen. We have a wee check in hello and chat at the start, and then we start the practice. When you connect on Zoom, your video is automatically switched off. Once the session starts, Karen will also mute everyone. Rest assured that Karen is the only person who is seen and heard.

You can lie down (on a couch, on your bed, or on the floor), or sit on a chair. Make sure your body is comfortable and feels supported. Cover yourself in a blanket or shawl so you don’t get cold. And then for 30 minutes there is nothing you need to ‘do’ except listen to Karen’s voice, and follow her guidance.

Yoga Nidra is described as a ‘practice’, and each time we practice it will feel different. That’s because each time WE are different – we have had a different kind of day or week, we may feel different physically, mentally and emotionally, and so it makes sense that our Yoga Nidra experience will differ from day to day.

What will you get out of the practice?
That is the interesting thing about it – often Yoga Nidra has an adaptive quality to it, meaning that it becomes what you need in that moment. If you are feeling really tired, you may sleep. If your mind is feeling very busy, you may feel a lot calmer afterwards. If your body is feeling restless, you may feel more relaxed. If you are struggling with an issue or a question, you may find some mental clarity. There is no right or wrong.

After the meditation:
Have a nice big glass of water, and take some time before you continue with the rest of your day.

How to join:
Email hello@theiya.org and they will send you the Zoom link & connection details.
