Edinburgh Research Interest Group (ERIG) members are to invited to an In Person ERIG event at the Centre for Regenerative Medicine, Little France Dr, Edinburgh EH16 4UU. This will be on Saturday 7 December 2024.
If you are not already a member of ERIG, it is free to join. Simply complete the Join online application from the main ERIG page.
Three students carrying out research into Parkinson’s will each give a short (12 minute) talk on their work.
The talks will be judged by a panel of three ERIG members: Branch Chair Stephen Brannan, former Branch Chair David Adams and Dr Kat Bowles (UK Dementia Research Institute at the University of Edinburgh) who holds a research grant from Parkinson’s UK. The student giving the best lay talk will be awarded the £700 Bowler Travel Bursary that they can use to attend a conference relevant to their research.
(The students have been told to prepare talks suitable for a lay audience of people living with Parkinson’s).
These are the students and the titles of their talks:
Faidra Batsaki (Supervisor Prof Chris Coxon, Chemistry): Two Tools, One Diagnosis: Advancing Early Detection of Parkinson’s Disease.
Marc Forndt (Supervisor Prof Mathew Horrocks, Chemistry): A Peptide-Based Approach Towards a New Therapy for Parkinson’s Disease.
Zhijun Wang (Supervisor: Prof Tilo Kunath, Centre for Regenerative Medicine): Let the cells illuminate their mitochondrial health.
Please come along to make this an enjoyable experience for the students and help to educate the next generation of Parkinson’s researchers about Parkinson’s.
We will start at 10:00 with tea and coffee and finish after a light lunch at around 12:30.
Free car parking for those attending is available at the Centre for Regenerative Medicine courtesy of our host, Prof. Tilo Kunath.
Please let David Melton (Chair of ERIG) know if you will be attending by emailing: davidm@edinburghparkinsons.org
