Talk by Dario Alessi

Members of the Edinburgh Research Interest Group who attended a meeting last Saturday, 28th February,  at the Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine were treated to a comprehensive review of ongoing research work at the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation unit in Dundee by the Director, Professor Dario Alessi FRS.

In a wide-ranging talk Professor Alessi described the current state of knowedge of Parkinson’s and the efforts to understand the genetics of the disease at the molecular level. He focused on the roles played by the PINK1 , Parkin and LRRK2 genes and on how much progress had been made in understanding how mutations in these genes were involved in the disease process.
