From Parkinson’s UK Scotland is a plea to share experiences in relation to blue badges. You probably know Stuart Smith who is on the Branch committee has been advocating for some time to improve the process.
The P-UK Scotland Newsletter includes a plea we wanted to share with you:
“We know that for many people with Parkinson’s, the blue badge scheme is a lifeline. Blue Badges enable people with poor mobility to park closer to their destination, whether that’s a hospital appointment, at the supermarket or when meeting family or friends.
Some people with Parkinson’s qualify for a Blue Badge automatically because they receive certain working age benefits. But it can be more challenging for people who don’t receive these to get an award even when their Parkinson’s is more advanced.
We’re planning a new report on Blue Badges, to highlight some of the issues that people with Parkinson’s face in Scotland – and you can help!
Please get in touch if you:
- have Parkinson’s that significantly affects your ability to walk and
- have had problems applying for a Blue Badge or
- have been asked to attend a mobility assessment or
- have been refused a blue badge and
- would would be prepared to talk about it publicly
We would love to hear from you because we want to include real experiences in the report and any publicity that we do around it”.
Please email Tanith and Mairi to tell us about your experience on the following email address: influence.scot@parkinsons.org.uk
