ERIG Talk: Hidden Ancient RNAs and New Frontiers in Parkinson’s Research (30th May)

Dr Tanay Ghosh is applying for a Parkinson’s UK Senior Fellowship to work at the new Parkinson’s Research Centre in Edinburgh. The title of his online talk on Saturday 30th May at 10am is:

Hidden Ancient RNAs and New Frontiers in Parkinson’s Research: Paving the Way for Future Therapies

Tanay Ghosh is a neuroscientist with more than 15 years’ experience studying how the brain develops, ages and changes in disease. He received his PhD in Biotechnology from the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, India and later worked at INSERM in Paris before joining the laboratory of Robin Franklin at the University of Cambridge. There, he developed a deep interest in oligodendrocytes — the cells that help protect and support neurons by forming myelin in the brain. Tanay later moved to Industry and worked as a Senior Scientist at Altos Labs-Cambridge Institute of Science. His recent research led to the discovery of an ancient RNA mechanism that plays an important role in myelin biology, opening new avenues for understanding brain health and neurological disease.

This seems like a novel approach to tackling Parkinson’s and Tanay is particularly keen to hear what PwPs think about his research proposal.

The talk start at 10:00 and is expected to finish around 11:00.

Please let ERIG Chair David Melton know by email (David.Melton@ed.ac.uk) if you would like to attend and he will send you the Zoom link.
