Members of the Edinburgh Parkinson’s Branch are helping Dr Martine Verheul and her PhD student Ruyi Xu from the University of Edinburgh Institute for Sport, Physical Education and Health Sciences to carry out a study to investigate the possible benefits of Frame Running for People with Parkinson’s.
Volunteers have each spent an hour being tested at the university lab using a range of measures from the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) that is the standard used to quantify the severity of a person’s Parkinson’s symptoms.
The hardy souls are now part way through an 8-week series of Frame Running sessions on the outdoor track at Meadowmill Sports Centre near Tranent. They will then be tested again in the university lab to see if there has been any improvement in their symptoms.
