Alison Williams is raising money for the Parkinson’s Active programme. She will be taking the plunge off Montrose beach this Saturday (15th May 2021)………come hail, snow, wind or orcas! Alison has launched a Just Giving Page and we encourage you to donate.
From the Just Giving Page, Alison confirms:
“You all know my passion for using exercise to keep my Parkinson’s symptoms under control and even reversed. Now I’m raising funds for Parkinson’s Active so that the (approximately) 12,000 people with Parkinson’s (PwP) in Scotland can access Parkinson’s-specific exercise classes in their own local communities.
Parkinson’s Active was launched in March 2020, and is a partnership project between Health Professionals and Leisure Providers (currently on-line). The charity is training exercise instructors to deliver sessions specifically for PwP no matter what stage of the Parkinson’s journey as part of exercise referral/wellbeing programmes.
The charity’s aim is to engage Leisure Trusts across all of Scotland to deliver classes providing more opportunities for PwP to access exercise on a regular basis in their local community.
So, I’m going to go open-sea swimming this weekend in Montrose (supported by David’s son Jamie and his partner Kerry). As everyone says: “You’ve got to be mad to do it in this weather!”
Yes, and I’m relying on you all chipping in towards the Parkinson’s Active project so that I can’t back out of it!”
