We received an email from Amanda McKay (Physical Activity Officer in for Parkinson’s UK) and Ruth Kelloe with a link to an amazing video produced by Parkinson’s UK.
From Amanda & Ruth:
“We are super proud to share a new video, showcasing the power of physical activity for people with Parkinson’s.
If you’ve ever wondered what a class for people with Parkinson’s looks like, here’s a fantastic example from High Life Highland.
Thanks to joint working between ourselves, High Life Highland and NHS Highland, we have been able to train instructors to deliver classes that meet the needs of people with Parkinson’s.
HUMUNGOUS THANKS to Andrew Grant for all his hard work in engaging people to take part in this video, especially those who spoke, they were brilliant choices!
This is just one example of the work the Active project has been doing all over Scotland to train instructors and support community-based leisure trusts to deliver programmes for people with Parkinson’s. Working alongside local physio teams and nurses to help support instructors and signpost people to these activities. It is a work in progress and I hope this video will inspire other leisure trusts to get involved or even review their current offers to make them even better! Most importantly I hope this video will show people with Parkinson’s what a class can look like and encourage them to give it a try”
